OUGD402 - 40 Minute Studio Exercise - Blog Feedback

After the presentation Fred gave us on higher education and feedback, we were told to gather into our blog groups for a quick task to start us off.

We were first asked to write down the things we would appreciate feedback from in regards to our current work, we each had something slightly different but they all really consisted of the same main points. Mine were the following:

  • Quality of work I have produced - as I think I need/can improve an awful lot!
  • The way I discuss my work on my blog - because I talk about my work quite light-heartedly to make it seem more fun and less boring.
  • Ideas - are my ideas full enough? thorough enough? different enough?
  • Time management - Am I organising my time well enough now? I really struggled to get to grips with things when we started and I fell behind really badly.

After we had all listed our own thoughts on the question we got together as a group to discuss them and make a list as well as a way to record evidence to evaluate the work and provide feedback to our peers.

Feedback:-
  • Blog
  • Annotation
  • Work
  • Research
  • Amount of work
  • Whether blog is labelled appropriately
  • Use of media
  • What level
  • Essay
Evidence:-
  • Our blog
  • Written work
  • Experimentation/development

After finishing these lists we made yet another list! This one would define the assessment criteria of what we wanted feedback on. This consisted of the following:

  • The use of our blogs:
- Content
- Tagging
- Organisation
- Quality
- Quantity
  • Assessment criteria
  • Time and project management
  • Academic writing skills
  • Critical evaluation (myself and others)
  • Standard of work
  • Design decisions:
- Fonts
- Colours
  • Understanding of design
  • Individual improvement
  • Appropriate responses

Ten Questions were then made in regards to this list which would help us evaluate and give feedback to each of our group members as well as ten ways we will assess them.

1. Is there evidence of successful time management? - The time and date of post in relation to when the task was set.

2. Is the content of each post clearly identifiable in each title? - Check PPP, design context, and design practice blogs.

3. Is there annotations on each post or is it just pictures? - Check PPP, design context, and design practice blogs.

4. Are posts in the correct place? - Check all the appropriate posts.

5. Has all of the set work been blogged? - Check briefs and all of the blogs.

6. Are design decisions thorough and evidenced? - Read through all the blogs and assess through opinions and knowledge.

7. Is the writing style academic or informal? - Use of vocabulary in all bodies of text.

8. Are all images linked? - Check image links.

9. Are all posts labelled/tagged? (orange link) - Check all posts on each blog.

10. Are all blogs linked to the homepage? - Check homepage for links.

And last but not least, the end task is to go away after identifying five of the above questions we wish to receive feedback on and then each of our blog group members will comment on our posts. The questions I chose were the ones i most struggled with to make it a fair feedback listing.

1. Is there evidence of successful time management?

2. Is there annotations on each post or is it just pictures?

3. Are posts in the correct place?

4. Has all of the set work been blogged?

5. Are design decisions thorough and evidenced?
